Areas of Application

The CTfast temperature sensor is ideally suited for temperature measurements of especially quick processes, e.g., the production of glass syringes, during which the adherence process between the needle and the syringe can be optimally monitored and controlled. The IR thermometer CTfast is also employed in the production of PET bottles since, during the compression of PET preforms, a certain temperature needs to be adhered to to ensure the success of the process. The CTi LTfast is a reliable assistant for this surveillance task requiring a punctiform measurement. In the paper industry, the device is employed as well, e.g. in printing machines for measurements of operating and paper temperatures.

FAQs

Can I shorten the cable between the sensor head and the electronics box?

Not changing the sensing cable length is recommended, as the cable’s impedance is part of the sensor calibration. However, in all CTi LTfast models, the sensing head cable can be shortened if absolutely necessary. Shortening the cable will cause an additional measuring error of about 0,1 K/m.

What distance-to-spot size ratio is correct for the application?

The measuring object’s size and the infrared thermometers optical resolution determine the maximum distance between the sensing head and the measuring object. To prevent measuring errors, the object should completely fill out the field of view of the optics. Consequently, the spot should always be at least the same size as the object or should be smaller than that.

Which changes have to be selected if an external close-focus lens is used?

The optional CF lens allows the measurement of small objects. If the CF lens is used, the transmission has to be set to 0.78. The assigned transmission (average value) is a characteristic value that may have a certain scattering. If required, the transmission has to be determined experimentally.

How can I improve the noise amplitude of the sensor?

In the CT models, the head cable must not be moved during the measurement. Use shielded cables only. The sensor shield has to be grounded. Avoid ground loops and related signal interferences in industrial environments. It might be necessary to interrupt the ground connections inside the electronics box. To do this, switch the jumper inside the electronics box to another position. Review the manual.

How do I exchange the sensor head?

From the factory side, the sensing head has already been connected to the electronics and the calibration code has been entered. Inside a certain model group, any exchange of sensing heads and electronics is possible. Every head has a specific calibration code printed on the head cable. This calibration code must be stored in the electronic box for correct temperature measurement and sensor functionality.

Can I use the CTi LTfast as a 2-wire sensor?

Please do not connect a supply voltage to the analog outputs, as this will destroy the output. The CTi LTfast is not a 2-wire sensor. Please review the CSmicro series, as this is a two-wire sensor.
