About Optris

When Temperature Matters

Welcome to Optris

Optris develops and makes infrared cameras and pyrometers for accurate, non-contact temperature measurement in industrial and research settings. The company is privately owned and has over 20 years of experience in this field. As the leader in infrared technology, Optris develops innovative thermal cameras and pyrometers renowned for their precision and reliability. Optris solutions are used in various industries and research areas to improve processes, ensure quality, and support efficient operations.

Company Structure

As a privately owned Mittelstand company, the headquarters is based in Berlin, Germany. The company combines in-house research and development, manufacturing, and calibration facilities under one roof, ensuring full control over product quality and innovation. A global network of distributors and subsidiaries supports international sales and customer service, while dedicated teams for engineering, production, and administration ensure efficient operations and direct communication with partners and customers.

The ability to measure and check temperatures quickly and accurately is vital for today’s industry. At Optris, we offer non-contact thermal monitoring solutions that help innovators and manufacturers improve their processes, achieve scalable results, and ensure that essential systems function reliably worldwide.

From large serial integration projects to research projects and from aerospace to automotive, our infrared cameras and pyrometers provide precision, safety, and consistency at every stage. Our non-contact sensing systems are designed to handle harsh environments and fit even the most unique applications. They support fully automated processes, enabling continuous production while delivering accurate data needed for quality assurance, process control, and on-site safety.

About Us
About Us

We focus solely on non-contact temperature measurement technology. Temperature is the second most measured physical quantity after time. It often relates to improving product quality, controlling thermal processes, and saving energy. This creates a vast market in the industrial sector, covering everything from monitoring skin temperature in life sciences to measuring melting temperatures in steelworks, along with applications in advanced manufacturing like additive manufacturing.

Using infrared thermometers requires sound advice to reduce measurement errors. Customers often want complete solutions that cover the full measurement, evaluation, and control process. For key applications, we offer direct support, but we aim to quickly pass system business to our local distributors. We believe local support, service, and further development of system solutions are most effective, while Optris focuses on advancing sensor technology.

Success in manufacturing relies on consistently achieving standardized quality. By investing in Optris solutions, companies enhance performance, throughput, and product quality while lowering costs associated with manual errors. With our technology, businesses can validate processes in real time, prevent costly equipment failures, and confidently meet output targets.

Our success is based on award-winning technologies that set new standards for the industry. With our expertise, we meet the requirements of numerous applications and ensure the process reliability, process control, and product quality that are crucial for our customers.

Our customer-focused approach helps us create effective solutions and provide expert local support across every time zone. Many industrial processes are time-sensitive, which is why our experienced sales team operates globally to ensure customers receive timely assistance. While competitors may leave customers stranded due to travel limitations, long lead times, or high prices, Optris continues to deliver—thanks to our extensive network and commitment to reliable service, even in challenging times.

Unlike many competitors, Optris does not engage in military applications. Our infrared sensors are developed solely for peaceful use in industrial, scientific, and non-threatening fields. This aligns with our company values and ensures our technology contributes to positive progress.

Foundation of Optris GmbH

Optris GmbH was founded in 2003 to enhance the range of non-contact temperature sensors with advanced measurement and application principles.

The initial support of Micro-Epsilon as a 24.9% shareholder, especially at the beginning of this development, also made the big success of becoming one of the world’s leading manufacturers of pyrometers and infrared cameras possible. The MICRO-EPSILON-MESSTECHNIK group provides an extensive selection of sensors, systems, and solutions, including displacement sensors, color sensors, and thickness measurement tools.

Optris onboards the first sales partners to establish indirect sales channels

Next to the direct sales structure, Optris onboards the first third-party sales partners.

Optris has begun adopting an indirect sales strategy in response to increasing product demand. This approach streamlines the sales process, reducing the final price of infrared products and ensuring a global presence. The combination of a compelling cost-performance ratio, attractive discounts, and private labeling options drives the growth of partnerships. Today’s the oldest sales partnership reach back to 2004.
