PI Series

Fixed Thermal Camera for Precision Infrared Imaging

Optris infrared camera pi series label

The Optris PI series is a family of radiometric fixed thermal cameras designed for stationary thermography in industry, research, and development. It includes general-purpose LT models at 8–14 µm, the glass-optimized G7 at 7.9 µm, and the short-wavelength models for metals and high-temperature targets. There are also options suitable for laser processes. The frame rates reach approximately 32–125 Hz in LWIR and up to 1 kHz in short-wave devices, enabling the capture of both slow trends and rapid changes. The Precision Line emphasizes image quality, a small MFOV, and precise radiometric temperature accuracy. Each fixed thermal camera connects through USB 2.0 and works with PIX Connect for data acquisition, analysis, alarms, and I/O mapping. The compact IP67 housings support interchangeable optics, ranging from wide-angle to microscope, with manual focus.

Spectral Ranges That Fit the Process

The PI Series provides multiple spectral ranges, allowing the sensor band to match specific material properties and process conditions. Selecting the right wavelength band reduces emissivity uncertainty, minimizes background reflections, and improves signal-to-noise at target temperatures. Shorter wavelengths are ideal for very hot, reflective targets, while longer wavelengths suit coated, painted, or polymer surfaces. Specialized bands are available for semi-transparent materials and thin films. Proper spectral selection also rejects interference from ambient radiation, process glare, and combustion byproducts, resulting in cleaner radiometric data. When combined with calibrated optics and precise spot-size guidelines, this flexibility ensures stable temperature readings and enhanced feature contrast across various applications.

Built for Speed: Up to 1 kHz

The PI Series is built for speed. LWIR models stream full-frame thermography at 32–80 Hz, with a 125 Hz subframe on PI 640i for higher temporal resolution. Short-wavelength variants offer subframe and line-scan modes up to 1 kHz. This acquisition range captures slow thermal drifts and rapid transients with minimal motion blur. It supports real-time alarming, trend analysis, and closed-loop control. Short integration times and low readout latency preserve radiometric fidelity at high throughput. Hardware triggers and stable time stamps enable synchronized measurements with external processes.

High Dynamic Range, High Confidence

The PI Series offers a wide temperature range and fine resolution, ensuring reliable radiometry for diverse applications. Its calibrated ranges span from sub-ambient to extreme heat, while high dynamic range maintains accuracy throughout. Low noise enables detection of subtle gradients and early hot-spot formation, supporting predictive maintenance and process optimization. Consistent repeatability and precise timing support trend analysis and closed-loop control. The optics and configuration keep the MFOV compact, ensuring precise spot readings without background interference. This results in clear, traceable temperature data for both routine monitoring and high-temperature processes.

Thermography Software PIX Connect and OTC SDK

Precision Line thermal cameras work directly with PIX Connect and the OTC SDK, supporting immediate use and advanced integration. PIX Connect enables live radiometric imaging, recording, region setup, alarms, and remote configuration, allowing users to commission and analyze systems without requiring custom development. For embedded applications, the OTC SDK provides access to device controls and calibrated temperature data, including pixel arrays, statistics, regions, and emissivity. Developers can synchronize triggers, log events, and connect to PLCs or databases.
