Thermal Glass Inspection Systems

Accurate Temperature Measurement for Tempered and Low-E Glass

Traditional methods struggle to measure the temperature of Low-E glass because they typically operate from above after the glass exits the furnace. The Bottom-Up Glass Inspection System is a compact package for process control in low-E glass tempering. Two infrared imagers mounted beneath the line line-scan the uncoated underside of the glass, even with obstructions in the field of view. A pyrometer detects breakage, electronically controlled shutters protect the optics, and line-scan software reconstructs full-sheet thermal images and calculates the produced glass area.

When to use Bottom-Up Glass Inspection Systems?

  • When infrared cameras can be installed beneath the furnace exit, between the furnace and quench, with at least one free roller gap for an unobstructed view of the glass underside.
  • When the tempering line mainly runs Low-E or coated glass, and coating-independent temperature measurement is required by viewing the uncoated, high-emissivity underside, avoiding emissivity deviations and frequent parameter changes.
  • When temperature should be captured as close as possible to the furnace outlet, before the quench, to obtain precise cross-sectional profiles for recipe optimization, flatness control, and consistent mechanical strength.
