This USB to Serial Converter lets you connect any RS485 or RS422 device directly to your computer’s USB port. RS485, known as EIA-485, is a standard that defines the electrical properties of drivers and receivers for serial communication systems. It is commonly used in industrial automation and control applications because of its strength and ability to handle long-distance, high-speed data transmission. RS485 uses differential signaling, transmitting data over two wires (A and B) with opposite voltage levels. This setup reduces noise and ensures reliable communication over long distances, even in electrically noisy environments, up to 1200 meters.

  • One RS422/485 Port over USB Port
  • Easy Serial Port Expansion over USB Port
  • Integrated switchable termination resistor

FAQs

What is the difference between RS422 and RS485?

RS485 can have multiple commanding devices and multiple listening devices. RS422 can have only one commander and multiple listeners.

How do I change the 120Ohm termination resistor?

To change the termination resistor, locate the USB adapter where it’s integrated. Then, switch it to the desired setting to properly set the impedance of the RS485 network.

When do I have to use the termination resistor?

The 120Ohm resistor must be set at the last unit’s end of the communication chain.

Does the adapter work with pyrometer and infrared cameras from Optris?

Yes, this adapter is compatible with the infrared camera and pyrometer that support the RS485 serial communication.

Where do I find the corresponding command list for the infrared cameras and pyrometer?

The command list can be found either here on the website or in the software installation folder.

How many sensors can I connect in one network?

Up to 32x units can be connected to one RS485 interface.
