Product Description

Accurate temperature measurement is essential in laboratory environments. However, industrial applications introduce additional challenges that can impact measurement accuracy when using a pyrometer. Short-wavelength pyrometer technology offers reduced sensitivity to emissivity variations and high optical resolution, providing stable performance under real-world conditions, particularly in hot-metal processing. The measurement wavelength, optical quality, and temperature range should be considered to minimize errors caused by emissivity changes, reflections, and alignment deviations when measuring on metallic surfaces.

With its specialized spectral range of around 1.0 µm, the InGaAs detector ensures accurate temperature measurements across a range of 350 to 2200 °C in hot applications. The pyrometer’s compact head allows for easy installation in tight spaces, facilitating cost-effective mechanical integration. The Optris CT 1M pyrometer is meticulously engineered to accurately measure temperatures ranging from 350 °C to 2200 °C. This infrared sensor is available in four different variants, each with a specific temperature range: 1MXL (350 °C…800 °C), 1ML (485 °C…1150 °C), 1MH (650 °C…1850 °C), and 1MH1 (800 °C…2200 °C). This thermal non-contact sensor finds frequent use in steel, tungsten, iron, nickel, and semiconductor applications.

The CTi 1M supports a distance-to-spot size ratio of up to 75:1 and ensures precise temperature measurements even from a distance. The IR thermometer’s compact size and temperature resistance of up to 85 °C make it suitable for integration into heavy machinery. Fast processes can be effectively monitored with a rapid response time of 320 µs.

A key characteristic of this infrared thermometer is its precise non-contact temperature measurement enabled by remotely separated electronics with easily accessible programming keys and an LCD display. The stainless steel housing enhances durability in various industrial settings.

The Optris CTi 1M pyrometer series enables seamless integration into machinery and provides users with high versatility. The electronics box offers a range of analog and digital outputs, including 0/4 – 20 mA, 0 – 5 V, 0 – 10 V, thermocouple (type K), USB, RS485, RS232 interfaces, relay outputs (2 x optically isolated), Profibus DP, ProfiNet, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU and Ethernet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCat and IO-Link.

The infrared sensor’s functionality can be extended with optional accessories tailored to demanding industrial applications. A mounting fork enables secure installation, while a sighting tube supports precise target alignment. A close-focus lens allows accurate measurement of small or distant objects. Air purge and cooling jackets protect the optics and sensor in harsh or high-temperature environments, ensuring reliable performance and expanded application flexibility.

Engineered to withstand even the harshest conditions, the CTi 1M pyrometer ensures accurate temperature measurements in demanding environments. The pyrometer’s thermal shock-resistant design guarantees consistency despite fluctuations in ambient temperature. The robust stainless steel measuring head simplifies integration into confined spaces, making the infrared sensor suitable for various applications. The pyrometer’s exceptional temperature resistance allows seamless operation in ambient temperatures up to 85 °C without supplementary cooling. Manufactured in Germany to stringent quality standards, this thermal sensor is designed for reliable operation in the most demanding environments. The fixed-mounted design ensures stability and accuracy over extended periods, making the CTi 1M an essential tool for critical industrial processes.

In summary, the Optris CTi 1M series pyrometer combines precision, adaptability, and durability to facilitate non-contact temperature measurement. Whether capturing quick manufacturing processes or operating in challenging conditions, the IR pyrometer is a reliable and efficient solution for diverse industrial applications.

FAQs

Can I shorten the cable between the sensor head and the electronics box?

On the model CTi 1M, the sensing head cable can be shortened by max. 3 m

What distance-to-spot size ratio is correct for the application?

The measuring object’s size and the infrared thermometers optical resolution determine the maximum distance between the sensing head and the measuring object. To prevent measuring errors, the object should fill out the optics field of view. Consequently, the spot should always be at least the same size as the object or should be smaller than that.

Which changes have to be selected if an external close-focus lens is used?

The optional CF lens allows the measurement of small objects. If the CF lens is used, the transmission has to be set to 0,92. The assigned transmission (average value) is a characteristic value that may have a certain scattering. If required, the transmission has to be determined experimentally.

How can I improve the noise amplitude of the sensor?

In the CTi models, the head cable must not be moved during the measurement. Use shielded cables only. The sensor shield has to be grounded. Avoid ground loops and related signal interferences in industrial environments. It might be necessary to interrupt the ground connections inside the electronics box. To do this, switch the jumper inside the electronics box to another position. Review the manual.

How do I exchange the sensor head?

From the factory side, the sensing head has already been connected to the electronics and the calibration code has been entered. Any sensing heads and electronics exchange is possible inside a certain model group. Every head has a specific calibration code, which is printed on the head cable. This calibration code must be stored in the electronic box for correct temperature measurement and sensor functionality.

Can I use the CTi 1M as a 2-wire sensor?

Please do not connect a supply voltage to the analog outputs, as this will destroy the output. The CTi 1M is not a 2-wire sensor. Please review the CSmicro series, as this is a two-wire sensor.
