The Optris CTi 2M infrared pyrometer uses short-wavelength measurement technology at 1.6 µm to provide precise non-contact temperature measurement in demanding hot-metal applications. This short spectral range greatly reduces measurement errors from low or varying emissivity and ensures stable, repeatable results. An InGaAs detector allows accurate temperature measurement of metals, metal oxides, ceramics, and semiconductor materials at high temperatures. With a distance-to-spot ratio of up to 75:1, the pyrometer offers reliable measurements of small targets even from long distances. Its compact design and fast response time of 320 µs make the CTi 2M suitable for integration into high-speed industrial processes and heavy machinery.

The Optris CTi LT series pyrometers feature one of the smallest infrared sensing heads in the world and have a high optical resolution of up to 22:1. They use a thermopile as a detector and operate within a spectral bandwidth of 8-14µm, making them excellent for measuring high-emissivity targets, even at low object temperatures, in fixed installations.

These pyrometers come with a separate control box that offers flexibility with selectable analog outputs and various digital interfaces. This design is particularly advantageous for applications in high-temperature environments. The sturdy construction allows the sensing heads to withstand temperatures up to 180 °C without additional cooling, which makes them suitable for high-temperature settings.

The Optris CTi LT series sets a standard for non-contact temperature measurement by focusing on precision and speed. Their two-piece design includes one of the smallest infrared sensors available, a notable optical resolution of up to 22:1, and a rapid exposure time of as low as 115 ms for 90% energy.     Can I shorten the cable between the sensor head and the electronics box?

    Not changing the sensing cable length is recommended, as the cable’s impedance is part of the sensor calibration. However, in all CTi LT models, the sensing head cable can be shortened if necessary. Shortening the cable will cause an additional measuring error of about 0,1 K/m.

    What distance-to-spot size ratio is correct for the application?

    The size of the measuring object and the infrared thermometer’s optical resolution determine the maximum distance between the sensing head and the object. To prevent measuring errors, the object should fill the optics field of view. Consequently, the spot should always be at least the same size as the object or should be smaller than that.

    Which changes must be selected when an external close-focus lens is used?

    The optional CF lens allows the measurement of small objects. If the CF lens is used, the <a href=”/lexicon/transmissivity/”>transmission</a> has to be set to 0.78. The assigned transmission (average value) is a characteristic value that may exhibit some scattering. If required, the transmission has to be determined experimentally.

    How can I increase the sensor’s noise amplitude?

    In the CTi LT models, the head cable must not be moved during the measurement. Use shielded cables only. The sensor shield has to be grounded. Avoid ground loops and related signal interferences in industrial environments. It might be necessary to interrupt the ground connections inside the electronics box. To do this, switch the jumper inside the electronics box to another position.

    How do I exchange the sensor head?

    From the factory side, the sensing head has already been connected to the electronics, and the calibration code has been entered. Any exchange of sensing heads and electronics is possible inside a certain model group. Each head has a specific calibration code printed on its cable. This calibration code must be stored in the electronic box to ensure accurate temperature measurement and sensor functionality.

    Can I use the CTi LT as a 2-wire sensor?

    Please do not connect a supply voltage to the analog outputs, as this will destroy the output. The CTi LT is not a 2-wire sensor. Please review the CSmicro series, as this is a two-wire sensor.

    Is the CTi LT pyrometer Series head vacuum-compatible?

    Yes, the CTi LT pyrometer heads are also vacuum-compatible.

    Can you connect two pyrometers to the same computer?

    Yes, this is possible. For using the software CompactPlusConnect or CompactConnect (depends on which type of pyrometers you are using) you have to create different instances of the software. You can connect two pyrometers via the USB ports. It is also possible to connect the two pyrometers via an RS-485 interface. You can connect the first pyrometer to the PC via the provided RS-485/USB adapter.
