    FAQs

How do I focus the CTratio?

The CTratio pyrometer is equipped with a vario optics. This enables you to focus the device from a distance of 150 mm to infinity. To focus the sensor, loosen the knurled screw on the head. Now you can focus the device on the passive infrared sensor head. After alignment, tighten the knurled screw. This secures the focus. By turning the rotary button clockwise you will change the focus in direction far. By turning counterclockwise you will change the focus in direction close.

How do I connect or disconnect the fiber optical cable?

When mechanically connecting the fiber to the sensor head and the electronics box, the correct pairing must be ensured. Both connections are labeled with the corresponding side (“Head” and “Box”). To connect the fiber correctly, plug the cable into the device and turn the fiber until it locks into place. Then fix the cable with the knurled screw Never pull on the fiber. This can damage and destroy the fiber. When removing the fiber, the screw connection must be loosenedfirst.

What is the bending radius on the fiber?

Please make sure that the minimum bending radius of the fiber optics is 29 mm for 1MH/1MH1, and 80 mm for 1ML will be considered during installation.

What do you do if the fiber is broken?

The device must be sent in if the fiber or measuring head is defective. A recalibration is necessary.

How to replace the fiber-optical cable?

For a fast field exchange max. two spare fibers of the same length including optical sensing head can be ordered together with the main CTratio unit. As they will be adjusted together with the CTratio a subsequent order of spare fibers is not possible.

How do I aim with a CTratio?

The integrated laser sighting supports the alignment and focusing of the optics. The size of the laser dot is equal to the real measurement spot size at any distance.

    Is the laser dangerous?

The pyrometers laser is a class 2 laser with less than 2mW in the wavelength range of 500 nm to 650 nm, according to EN 60825 1:2014. Do not point the laser directly at the eyes of persons or animals! Do not stare into the laser beam. Avoid indirect exposure via reflective surfaces.

Does the laser automatically switch off?

At ambient temperatures >50 °C the laser will be switched off automatically. The laser should only be used for sighting and positioning of the sensor. A permanent use of the laser can reduce the lifetime of the laser diodes and might heat up the sensor.

Can I trigger the laser externally?

Yes, but the supply line for the sighting laser must be led via a switch or pushbutton, which has to be installed max 2 m away from installation site of the sensor for safety purposes. The laser can be activated/ deactivated via this, by the user on site to be installed switch, or via the software.

Can I use the CTratio as a 2-wire sensor?

Please do not connect a supply voltage to the analog outputs, as this will destroy the output. The CTratio is not a 2-wire sensor. Please review the CSmicro series, as this is a two-wire sensor.

Can I use the USB interface permanently?

The USB socket built into the side is only intended for setting up the sensor and any subsequent changes to the settings. Permanently plugging and unplugging the USB cable can cause damage. The USB interface is not designed for continuous use. For this purpose, please use the optionally available USB interface ACCTMIAC.

How can I improve the noise amplitude of the sensor?

In the CT models, the head cable must not be moved during the measurement. Use shielded cables only. The sensor shield has to be grounded. Avoid ground loops and related signal interferences in industrial environments. It might be necessary to interrupt the ground connections inside the electronics box. To do this, switch the jumper inside the electronics box to another position. Review the manual.

Can you connect two pyrometers to the same computer?

Yes, this is possible. For using the software CompactPlusConnect or CompactConnect (depends on which type of pyrometers you are using) you have to create different instances of the software. You can connect two pyrometers via the USB ports. It is also possible to connect the two pyrometers with a RS485 interface. You can connect the first pyrometer via the provided RS485-USB adapter to the PC.
