PI 640i G7 now with Extended Temperature Range up to 3000 °C

Optris infrared camera sets new standards for glass and laser applications

8th October 2025

Berlin, October 2025Optris GmbH & Co. KG announces a significant expansion of its successful infrared camera series PI 640i G7. With an increased temperature measurement range of up to 3000 °C and a new maximum scan angle of 145°, the latest model sets a new benchmark for high-precision temperature monitoring in glass processes – especially in combination with laser applications.

Extended Temperature Range up to 3000 °C

Thanks to the extended temperature range, the PI 640i G7 is the world’s first industrial infrared camera with a 7.9 µm filter specifically designed for measuring glass and transparent materials, such as films, at temperatures up to 3000 °C. This now enables thermographic monitoring of laser processes on glass, sapphire, or synthetic diamonds—such as laser cutting, drilling, or structuring. Traditional high-temperature applications in glass manufacturing, such as float glass lines, pressing or forming processes in container glass, as well as specialty glass production, also benefit from this new update.

Innovative features and software complete the performance package

Another milestone is the new 120° ultra-wide-angle optic, which, in combination with enhanced sensor technology, enables a horizontal field of view of up to 145° with 800 pixels per scan line. This allows a single device to monitor large production areas or multiple stations simultaneously—ideal for multi-stage manufacturing processes. In addition, the maximum ambient temperature has been increased to 70 °C, allowing the camera to be used under even more demanding production conditions without the need for additional cooling.

“With the upgraded PI 640i G7, we enable our customers to reliably monitor even extreme thermal processes in the glass industry,” explains Torsten Czech, Head of

Marketing at Optris. “Whether for high-temperature forming processes or quality control in specialty glass production—the PI 640i G7 opens up new application possibilities while reducing integration efforts thanks to its compact design and versatile interfaces. Once again, we are delivering real added value for manufacturers in the glass sector.”

The enhanced infrared camera is supplied with the proven Optris PIX Connect software, which includes a line-scan mode for continuous production monitoring. The combination of high resolution (640 × 480 pixels), extended temperature range, and industrial-grade design makes the new PI 640i G7 the ideal imager for demanding measurement tasks in glass applications.
