Thermal Image Subtraction

Infrared image subtraction using a single infrared camera is a technique to detect and highlight temperature changes and anomalies over time. This involves capturing two infrared images of the same scene at different times or under different conditions. The process starts by taking a reference image and then a subsequent image. By subtracting the pixel values of the reference image from the subsequent image, areas with significant thermal changes are highlighted.

This technique is useful in various applications. In industrial inspections, it helps identify developing hotspots or wear in machinery. In environmental monitoring, it detects temperature changes due to weather or human activities. In building diagnostics, it reveals areas of heat loss or moisture intrusion. In medical diagnostics, it monitors abnormal temperature changes in the body, aiding in the detection of conditions like inflammation.
