The Optris CT P7 pyrometer is designed for non-contact temperature measurement of thin plastics, from 0 °C to 710 °C (32 °F to 1310 °F). Its 7.9 µm spectral range provides precise readings. The temperature-resistant head can handle up to 85 °C (185 °F) ambient temperature without cooling. With a fast 150 ms response time, it improves efficiency in industrial processes, particularly in thin plastic foil production.

Emissivity adjustments accommodate different material thicknesses. Plastics like Fluoroplastic (FEP), Polyimide (PI), Acrylic (PMMA), and others have opacity at 7.9 μm, making measurements easy with the CT P7. The Optris CT P7 pyrometer is specifically designed for non-contact temperature measurement of thin plastic materials, offering a wide range from 0 °C to 710 °C. The infrared sensor specialized spectral region of 7.9 µm ensures precise temperature measurements of thin plastic materials. This innovative pyrometer provides accurate readings within its temperature range and features a measuring head that can withstand temperatures up to 85 °C without additional cooling.

With a measuring wavelength of 7.9 µm, the Optris CT P7 is particularly well-suited for temperature control during the production of thin plastic foils. The pyrometers machine sensing time of 150 ms ensures rapid response, enhancing efficiency in various industrial processes.

Emissivity, a crucial factor in temperature measurement accuracy, is carefully considered in the design of the Optris CT P7. Plastics thicker than 0.4 mm and pigmented films can be easily measured in the long-wave IR spectral range (8-14 µm) with high emissivity of ≥ 0.9. However, very thin plastic films are transparent in this spectral range. To address this, the CT P7 utilizes material-specific absorption bands in the IR spectrum, employing narrowband sensitive IR sensors for precise temperature measurement. For example, materials like Fluoroplastic (FEP), Polyimide (PI), Acrylic (PMMA), Polycarbonate (PC), Polyester (PET), and Polyvinyl chloride (PVC or Vinyl) exhibit IR opaqueness at 7.9 µm and are therefore easy to measure with the Optris CT P7.

The Optris CompactConnect software improves the functionalities of Optris fixed infrared pyrometers, offering various monitoring, analysis, and control features beyond basic temperature measurement. It includes features like visualizing temperature trends with temperature-time diagrams and documentation. The software enables data logging, automatic process controls, parameterization of the pyrometer via configuration settings, and setting up programmable outputs and inputs. Additionally, it provides advanced signal-processing functionalities. Compact Connect The Optris IR mobile allows users to set up and commission an Optris infrared pyrometer or infrared camera with an Android smartphone or tablet. This tool becomes handy for commissioning and aligning the infrared cameras field of view or adjusting the configuration. The app analyzes the connected infrared cameras live infrared image stream with auto hot and cold spot detection. For pyrometers, a temperature-time diagram or the video signal is displayed. Can I shorten the cable between the sensor head and the electronics box?

On the model CT P7, the sensing head cable can be shortened by max 3m

What distance-to-spot size ratio is correct for the application?

The measuring object’s size and the infrared thermometers optical resolution determine the maximum distance between the sensing head and the measuring object. To prevent measuring errors, the object should fill out the optics field of view. Consequently, the spot should always be at least the same size as the object or should be smaller than that.

How can I improve the noise amplitude of the sensor?

In the CT models, the head cable must not be moved during the measurement. Use shielded cables only. The sensor shield has to be grounded. Avoid ground loops and related signal interferences in industrial environments. It might be necessary to interrupt the ground connections inside the electronics box. To do this, switch the jumper inside the electronics box to another position. Review the manual.

How do I exchange the sensor head?

From the factory side, the sensing head has already been connected to the electronics and the calibration code has been entered. Any exchange of sensing heads and electronics is possible inside a certain model group. Every head has a specific calibration code, which is printed on the head cable. This calibration code must be stored in the electronic box for correct temperature measurement and sensor functionality.

Can I use the CT P7 as a 2-wire sensor?

Please do not connect a supply voltage to the analog outputs, as this will destroy the output. The CT P7 is not a 2-wire sensor. Please review the CSmicro series, as this is a two-wire sensor.

Can you connect two pyrometers to the same computer?

Yes, this is possible. For using the software CompactPlusConnect or CompactConnect (depends on which type of pyrometers you are using) you have to create different instances of the software. You can connect two pyrometers via the USB ports. It is also possible to connect the two pyrometers with a RS485 interface. You can connect the first pyrometer via the provided RS485-USB adapter to the PC.
