RTSP Streamer

Live Thermal Video Streaming Made Easy

Stream thermal video from your Optris infrared cameras in real time

The Optris RTSP Streamer transforms your thermal imaging setup into a live video source via RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol), making integration into monitoring systems simple, flexible, and fast. Designed to work seamlessly with PIX Connect and third-party software like VLC and iSpy, it enables direct access to thermal data over standard network infrastructures.

02 Introduction Pic for Optris infrared temperature monitoring in industrial applications

Key Features & USPs

  • RTSP Server Functionality: Broadcast live thermal video over IP
  • Seamless Integration: Works with popular video platforms like VLC and iSpy
  • Parameterized Startup: Set port, stream name, and instance via command line
  • One-click Streaming: Start the stream and open it in VLC with a single click
  • Multiple Client Access: Supports connections from several devices simultaneously
  • Automatic IPC Image Reception: Pulls data directly from PIX Connect
  • Quick restart in case of codec errors: As shown in the video, restarting stream and player resolves typical H264 display glitches

Why Do You Need the Optris RTSP Streamer?

In many industrial applications, real-time thermal imaging data must be shared across multiple systems or visualized in centralized monitoring platforms. The RTSP Streamer allows you to broadcast live video from Optris cameras, eliminating the need for complex software integrations or manual file handling.

What Problems Does It Solve?

  • Removes the need for dedicated thermal image software on every device
  • Simplifies integration into SCADA, DCS, or web-based dashboards
  • Enables multi-user access to thermal streams
  • Saves time in diagnostics, failure detection, and predictive maintenance
  • Facilitates remote troubleshooting, even from mobile devices

Check out our tutorial how to set up RTSP stream from Optris IR Cameras

As shown in the official tutorial video, setting up the RTSP stream takes just a few clicks and offers immediate visualization without requiring additional software configuration.

System Requirements

Recommended system requirements:

  • Windows OS (64-bit recommended)
  • Optris infrared camera
  • Installed PIX Connect software
  • RTSP-compatible software (e.g., VLC, iSpy, VMS platforms)
  • Network interface (LAN or Wi-Fi)
  • Port configuration range: 1–60000 (default: 6000)
  • .NET Framework for application runtime
Compatible Software
  • PIX Connect (required for IPC communication)
  • VLC Media Player – for live stream visualization
  • iSpy – for browser-based surveillance and alarm systems
  • Visual Studio (for customization) – based on the RTSP example application
Quick Start Guide – How It Works?
    1. Connect your Optris camera and launch PIX Connect.
    2. Go to Tools > Configuration > External Communication and activate Connect SDK (IPC).

    3. Launch the Optris RTSP Streamer application.

    4. Under RTSP Settings, select your network interface and click Start Stream.

    5. Click on the VLC or iSpy icon to start the viewer with the RTSP stream (e.g., rtsp://127.0.0.1:6000).

💡 Optional: Use command-line parameters for automated startup.
